Be Funny! Be Scary! Be Original! Just Be a Character!
As Halloween rapidly approaches, Kitchen Kettle employees start thinking about what they will be wearing on Tuesday, 10/31. That is the date of the 17th Annual Character Days at Kitchen Kettle Village. It is an opportunity for employees to shed their uniform for the day and take on a different persona. For some, this is an uncomfortable stretch (but not mandatory), for others like me it is awesome! The special day includes employees competing for prizes at our annual costume contest at 8:45am in the Kettle Café, breakfast treats (cupcakes & candy later in the day), as well as crafts and a fun register-to-win basket.
It all started eighteen years ago when a guest commented, “Kitchen Kettle is such a fun company, I would have thought you would have allowed your employees to dress up for Halloween.” That was all it took and in 2001 we launched our Annual Character Days. You never know who is going to dress up and sometimes you don’t even know who the participants are! Some departments come as a team, last year the marketing department dressed as goddesses – channeling our inner selves, with the leader of our accounting department as Zeus! The Pepper Lane Fudge staff performed a song and dance as part of their presentation. There have been super hero’s, witches, sports figures, video game characters and the list goes on. It is a fun day for the employees, as well as the guests who get to interact with them! Check out some of our costumes over the years…
