I love this time of year. The chill in the air makes for great sleeping at night and puts a rosy glow on your cheeks. There’s football and bonfires. Sweaters and cozy sweatshirts. Yummy food – hot spiced cider, pumpkin anything, fall squashes, crisp apples, and hearty hot soups are some of my favorites. The decorations add to the season: pumpkins and candles and gourds, oh my! And Halloween brings a layer of playfulness that just ramps everything up a notch.
The one thing I’m not so thrilled about this time of year is the shorter days. Soon I will travel to work AND home from work in the dark. Actually, I have a love/hate sort of feeling about the shorter days. While I certainly miss the feel of an extended evening the longer daylight hours provide, I truly enjoy the coziness of dark evenings. What’s not to like about glow-y lights, spicy scents and hot soup on the stove?
It’s hard sometimes working at Kitchen Kettle Village. There’s so much yummy food and lots of shops with enticing items. One of my favorites this time of year is The Country Life. There’s a glow as soon as you walk in … from the lit garlands to the locally-made candles and decorative lightbulbs. The local hand-carved gourds are unique decorating pieces and a fun way to add some glow to the darker evenings. The
spicy scent of potpourri greets you at the door, but there also are scented sacks and goat’s milk soaps – all locally-made. Check out all of their locally-made items, but be warned: they’re hard to resist! And they help make this already wonderful season that much more wonderful!
